Hi, I have a very nice condition kukhri type knife, which is the type shown in plate 465 Pg 196 in Ron Flooks book.
Mine is marked "REP" "RA 2.40", the leather scabbard is marked 1927-1412.
Its been suggested by someone who is obviously knowlegable on these that it is made in Rawalpindi in Feb. 1940, and is the pattern 1927.
Anyone have more info, and know the Model designation, and what "REP" means?
I have another Kukhri model of WW2 vintage, "M43" marked which has a number "5" in the scored wooden stocks, if it is 5th GR marked, were they in Europe, or the Pac?
Thankyou, Andy Gordon

Andy,
Welcome to BF and the Gurkha House Forum. According to the history of 5GR on the excellent British Empire website,
The 1st battalion served in Iran, Iraq, Egypt and Italy. The second battalion served in Burma and Japan. A third battalion was raised in October 1940 and served in Burma, Malaya and the Dutch East Indies. A fourth battalion was raised in March 1941, served in Burma and was disbanded in December 1946.
Lots more detail on the website about the four Victoria Crosses awarded to members of 5GR in WWII.

Sorry for the confusion, the handle on the M43 kukhri has 5 scored grooves around it, not the number 5.
The proof in the handle is the letter "W".

Sir Can you tell us how you came to own these knives? It sounds like you have two good ones!

Believe it or not; e-bay, total $250.00!
No scabbard, or small knives with the M43, but a nice complete set on the 1927.

Sounds like you got quite a deal! Congratulations. In our upcoming newsletter, we have an excellent article written by a very advanced Khukuri collector on service khukuris. Go to our homepage and subscribe to the newsletter to get the article.

REP probably stands for Regement Parachutiste Etranger.

Pardon my Frog.

Lest any think predjuice; I think less of Brits.

I have not been pleased with Americans for the last ten years either.
