Hi folks,

I just stumbled into a 35ATCBB Gurkha Kukri in the box, and had a couple of questions. Pics to follow.

1) I‘ve only ever seen leather sheaths for these, this one has what appears to be factory kydex or other thermoplastic. Is that a factory offering?

2) When did CarbonV production cease for these?

Thanks, and I’ll get some pics up promptly.

Last year for CV was 2006. Believe the first year for SecureEx sheaths for the Kukri was 2007. Possible there could have been some overlap, or the owner got a replacement sheath. Need pics to evaluate further.

I actually bought a leather sheath for this blade back in 2010/2011…and just acquired the knife!

The new Gurkha Kukri looks at home next to its brethren.

I look forward to your input.

I remember when, but I could not remember the date, so kudo's! 👍

I do remember that carbon V disappeared the same time Camillus USA went bankrupt. I know the Cold Steel had big German grinding equipment at Camillus to grind their Carbon V, and it was Camillus who subcontracted to make them. The early Cold Steel khukuris were satin finished steel, no coating.

this is a Carbon V stag Trailmaster.

(The Japanese were making the San Mai and Stainless versions). What I don't know, is why carbon V went away when the next vendor could have made carbon V knifes if the steel was available.

Carbon V steel was the supposedly the same material now used by Kabar and Becker as 1095 Cro-van.
