Here is an interesting screenshot of an unusual carry rig worn by a Gurkha. The video identifies him as Pvt. Bipen Rai, 2nd Battalion Royal Gurkha Rifles. Filmed in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, February 2009.

Looks big compared to the Gurkha, but we have no data on his size. If I could identify the item on his belt above it (radio, flashlight, GPS, cellphone,?) I'd have something definite for comparison.
The temptation to form premature theories upon insufficient data is the bane of our profession.

It looks like he's used to pulling it in a bent-knee/crouched position, or something, given how low-slung it is....and how much easier it seems to be to grab, in the position he's in.

I don't know how long your arms are, but in the position it's in, even standing, the handle is right where my hand naturally falls.

I don't like weight attached directly to my legs, but it seems to be working for him.

Of course, he also seems to have gone more for the lighter-weight, "quick-draw sheath type, instead of the Big Sucka that usually comes with an HI.
