With Y2K quickly approaching, the reports are piling in faster and faster. Lots of information and disinformation alike. Has anyone heard about gurkhas training in Hawaii for possible use in the U.S. during martial law? It seems improbable, but the way things are going, hedging bets is in order.

That might explain the strange happenings reported in and around Area 51 coming out of Rachel, Nevada lately. Those aren't little green men, those are the highly classified United Nations Gherkin force practising manuevers in those black "helicopters". ( Just teasing - no offense intended! Wink! )

Sending foreign troops of any sort in to "pacify" the US population simply isn't going to happen. No way, nohow, forget it. It would set off a civil war, or at the very least increase the casualties as "cultural differences" of various sorts caused chaos.

Now, did a British ship in the area let of a few Ghurkas on shore leave in Hawaii? That I'd believe. Even some sort of joint special-forces-type training wouldn't be inconcievable, the US and all the other NATO countries do that fairly often, it's no big deal. Since the Ghurkas are considered "elite troops", there's no reason they wouldn't get involved in that.

Interestingly, it has been proposed that the UN form a standing Gorkha regiment/division for the purpose of maintaining a fast-response force. The main advantage would be that, because the Gorkhas are mercenaries, no member nation would have to worry about the political fall-out from sending its own citizens into combat in the early stages of an armed, and potentially unpopular, conflict.

Steven, you have touched on the reason I personally believe the Gorkhas have always been so effective. They are doing a job they signed on to do and have no political or social burden to carry with them into the job.

I happen to think the UN Gorkha regiment is an excellent idea, considering they are trying to play police force for the world.
