Stumbled across this British news piece on the 2nd Batallion, Royal Gurkha Rifles, from a few years back...gets good around the 2 minute mark, when the Khukuris come out! Don't look like standard issue BAS, do they?

The gent on the left at the 2:14 mark is holding what appears to be something very similar to a chitlangi.

That video was a real treat faceofbear. I like the seeing real Khukuris in action and your point: "Don't look like standard issue BAS, do they?" is right on target. I heard from reliable sources that Gurkha's like to use their own Kukri from home when serving in the British Army.

This is because the Mark 5 or British Service Issue (BAS) is more of camp/utility tool than an actual battle knife. Your video confirms this in that it clearly shows in the interview and the three man demonstration a long Sirupate style blade and possibly longer than the 16" (OA) kukris that the news reporter stated earlier.

Loved it .

Ah, the smiling deathdealers... if I ever get rich enough to need and be able to afford bodyguards, I will get a few of those brave dudes and put all fears to rest. For one thing, I can already arm an army of them with H.I. khukuri :-)

Look at the guy to the left at 2.18 - 2.23 in video and then check out the pictures in this review :

Yes, the Khukuri there looks and I bet the dimensions are close to the Gelbu Special by Styler R. below.

L is for love and I love this Kukri!
What a wonderful knife in correct battle weight too. Like I have always said Himalayan Imports make some of the best and toughest knives available. Nice find Nils Georg.

Hmm... The round brass buttcap of the chitlangi is pretty distinctive.

Your right Berkley! It's a Chitlangi style :o. Like I have always said texans are smart. But I do love the Gelbu Special introduced in this thread.

Glad you all enjoyed the video as much as I...also thankful for the great screenshot work there, Berkley. I noticed the closed cho straight away but the shot was rather brief. to see 'em one on top of the other like that was awesome
