Gus Grissom knife recovered

Bruce,

I went to see the knife in person, when it came to the San Jose Tech museum. The various displays are very interesting. But when I saw the Randall Astro knife in a special display next to the capsule, you get a special feeling of its value to history. From its trip to sub orbit to three miles under the surface of the ocean. The condition of the knive is not fully seen in the discovery photo. The restoration of this peice was done with great care and the Randall stamp details are present on the knife. I could only wonder what Mr. Randall, would say about this knife if he could see how well it held up after all these years at the bottom of the ocean. The exhibit was well worth the time spent.

Best regards

I think it might have been in "Blade" magazine but I have seen pics and read an article on this very blade. The pics in the magazne showed B&W photo(s) of the knife in bad repair. It was structurally alright, but the blade had a large buildup of what looked like rust and gunk from the ship totally surrounding it. During restoration they somehow removed this stuff, revealing the knife looking IMO quite fabulous.
