You are 100% correct to resign. Those who have never moderated a forum don't fully understand the stress it can put on you.
As a moderator you are supposed to be the voice of reason and civility. Then you have to manage all these different personalities and try to keep them within the established lines.
Now, if you confront them on the forum and go that "extra mile" to explain it to them in a way that can be viewed as confrtational. Then you as the moderator are at fault. Not the moron who by BF rules does not have to list their real name or even a email address.
BF has this rule to protect these trolls and help increase the member numbers, nuff said.
So a moderator can become the target for these moron's. Then god forbid a moderator moves a thread or a post to a more appropriate fourm. Then you become one of the "Jack Booted Thugs or Goderators" who move threads and are censoring their "right of free speech". Now many of these are the same trolls who we all bad mouth on the GB&U and over in Whine and Cheese.
Gus was a co-moderator with Howard and Larry, who rarely if ever contributed anything to the custom knife forum as moderators. Everything was left for Gus to clean up.
Do you guys realize how many well known people in custom knives only lurk here? They lurk because they grew tired of the whining and back biting that goes on here. To the point that they either no longer contribute or in some cases don't even come here any more.
Gus, as a former moderator (who had to be fired twice! Shows you what a glutton for punishment I am). I found I enjoyed this room much more as a member than as a moderator. Oddly enough my arch nemises from when I was a moderator...Tim Herman and I became friends after I was no longer a moderator.
