Gustav Emil Ern honing steel

Good day all...

I have a vintage Gustav honing steel that I recently rediscovered in my late father’s “stuff”. On the handle end of the steel is stamped “FORGED HARD CHROME PLATED”...
My question is, will this material be appropriate for honing my anticipated future knife collection, which will likely be made from steel like s35vn or sg2?
Or should I be budgeting for an updated honing steel as well.
It sure is pretty though!

I use a honing steel that is over sixty years old with all my knives.
Regardless of the steel of the knife.

The chrome plating on yours gives you an extremely hard surface for your blades to work against. This is what you want. I cannot for see any problems.
