Gut hook need sharpening tips

Imade a thread a while ago but cant find it im having trouble sharpening my gut hooks . I have it all filed out and recieved it from heat treat and all done but am having trouble sharpening the gut hook and fast easy way . Iam thinking is there a ceramic rod a person could buy??? I took my dremel and a buffing tool and tried to buff the hook but thats not working. Ithen took 600 then 1500 emery and tried to sand it sharp using a small round screwdriver to wrap the paper as i sanded the hook worked a little but still not great. please help. thanks kellyw
 
How about a leather strop? OK, a strop won't fit, so charge a heavy leather bootlace and try that.
 
get some sanding rolls that fit the curve of your gut hook and work up a burr. then get some heavy leather about 1 1/2" in diameter and attach it to a spindle or however you can to the dremel. use the leather to buff the edge until its sharp. be careful to always go with the edge or you'll get a wakeup call really quick.
 
The gut hook is about 5/16 or just slightly larger the next ones are larger. so to sharpen it will be tough to say the least.
 
Spyderco's Pro File set might help. They would be dead slow though. Some diamond taper rods maybe, or a careful steady hand and a dremel.
