I built a gut hook and I'm having difficulty getting the inside of the hook as sharp as I think it should be. Anyone know any tricks
for accomplishing this? Thanks for any suggestions are help.

have the same problem.Wrap wet or dry silicone carbide(The black stuff)sandpaper around a dowel of the right size. there is a round diamond hone like a steel availble at Bi-Mart store around here.that works the best yet.I'Ll see if I can find the manufacturer.

I use a 1/4 inch round file. This is not to be confused with a "rat tail" file. These are used to sharpen chain saws. For a finer edge, wrapping a dowel rod with sandpaper as mentioned in another reply works as well.

One word of caution. Don't even get the gut hook close to a buffer, you are asking for trouble. If you need to buff the area around the hook, you can use the small 1 inch diameter buffing wheel on a Dremel tool. You can find these in most Wal-mart stores believe it or not.
