Hello, looking for a hunting knife. Fixed Blade with gut hook.

let me know what’s good out there.
Thanks

3=4 inch blade $150 max. Something with good steel.

The zipper is a little longer than that, like 4-1/4. Price fits, it's about a hundred bucks in the wood-handled version and Buck's 420HC. On the Vanguard I had (think zipper without the gut hook) I liked the wood-handled version better than the rubber handle. I think Cabelas' or Bass Pro commissioned an 'Alaskan Guide' Zipper in S30V with a coated blade. Those might still come in under your price range.

One good option is an old Schrade 158OT. They are in that smaller size range, have a gut hook and good steel (if you like carbon steel). You could find one pretty cheap too, and they look nice unlike most gut hook knives (to me)

Camillus and Gerber both made gut hooks, and I've seen a utility knife gut hook blade somewhere, maybe Stanley. I never found they worked very well though, at least on moose -- the hook clogged up with hair.

The utility knife blade that can be used as a gut hook is for shingles or carpet. They are readily available at home centers

My Dad used one of those once in a while when I’d go hunting when him. I was trying to think of that exact Schrade, but I had no idea what it was called.

My dad used to use one a long time ago. I found it all rusty and neglected, and cleaned it up for my sister to have a hunting knife. Theyre great. I dont like gut hooks though.
