Sal, any chance of a fixed-blade hunting knife with a guthook in the near future? Buck, Cold Steel, Schrade, and others all make knives with this feature.

Any chance of, say, a Moran with a guthook?

One of the proto pictures of the Impala has one.

But it's not FB.

Hi Guyon. As shown (thanx KK), we do have a guthook folder scheduled for this year. The original design was from Ed SCott. A South African custom knife maker that works for Kruger Natl Park. Culling and skinning 100 animals per day gives him some experience and expertise. He, along with several other full time hunters developed the model over a one year period. We then made some modifications to suit American game.

VG-10 will give good edge retention and corrosion resistance. G-10 handles provide good grip. Very user friendly and ergonomic design.

Sal,

If I may offer a suggestion as someone who has used a number of different guthooks: I like to see the opening as large as the blade size will practically permit. Small openings sometimes get jammed with fur, etc. and become much less effective. In my experience, even one extra mm can make a difference.

Thanks for the information on this model.

That sure looks like the ticket Sal. May give my full-sized Wegner a run for the money. Thanks for the scoop Sal. And thanks for the pic kraziekurtis. To date, this is the only folder I have with a guthook. The Impala sure looks like a step up.

One question: how would you shrpen the guthook as pictured in the Impala pic? The cutting edge at the back of the hook looks too far in for a Sharpmaker stone to fit, and a ProFile would be awkward as well. You could always sharpen the "back" of the bevel, but this would reprofile the hook, and eventually it wouldn't work as well, in addition to eventually being impossible to sharpen from that side as well.

A couple companies make tapered rod (icepick profile) sharpeners that work for many guthooks. Perhaps Eze-Lap or DMT. I can't recall who made mine and it's not at the office while I'm typing this.

"NAOW THATS A KNYFE!" I CAN SEE SOME SERIOUS USAGE WITH THIS ONE IN MY FUTURE.I WAS NEVER A BIG FAN OF GUTHOOKS,ALWAYS EQUATING THEM WITH THE LINE CUTTER HOOKS ON MY DIVE KNIVES WHICH NEVER WORKED.THEN THIS FALL I WATCHED A BUDDY OF MINE FIELD DRESS TWO WHITETAIL DEER WITH HIS GUTHOOK FOLDER(I THINK IT WAS A BUCK KNIFE).IT OPENED THEM UP LIKE THEY HAD ZIPPERS. I WAS AN INSTANT CONVERT.NOW TO SEE A SPYDERCO WITH A GUTHOOK...YAHOO!
