Hey guys,

I was thinking about getting a Guyot 38 oz bottle. I found that Nalgene also sells them. Are they the same? How are these bottles? Likes and Dislikes.

Thanks

God Bless

I believe Nalgene owns Guyot. These bottles are awesome. Quite a few people have paired them up with a Maxpedition Bottle holder to make nice little kits out of them.

That's really cool. I heard that somebody mentioned that their bottle smells. Any advice on getting the smell out?

Just wash it and the cap good by hand before using it. I put it all on the top rack in my dishwasher after that. SS Guyots and Nalgenes are going to have some kind of faint aroma to them no matter what. One thing not mentioned is the fact that we are drinking from that same couple bottles for several days and it will begin to smell kind of bad if not washed one or twice a day. The bottle rim and threads retain that until washed very well.

Nalgene is Guyot's sole distributor for bottles, but doesn't own them. Guyot makes some great products though. My favorite is the squishy bowl - one size is just perfect for use as a shot glass.

I have a Guyot SS and a Nlgene bottle and relly like them both. I got back from a road trip last sunday and discovered a half litre of gatoraid left in the SS bottle from about 10 days ago, Gave it a rinse with clean water and its good to go, no smell, no taste.

Go find BF member LupaWolf. Shes got a place that sells them and is super nice to deal with. I'm going in for the bottle(s), nesting cup and the Maxped to carry it all in. There was a thread not to long ago with lots of reviews and pics of them.

Great bottles. I love mine.

Use it alot. Bout everytime I go out. I love to make hot tea and coffee in it in the AM while backpacking or camping.

Great bottles. I have four of them and they all get used often. You can't go wrong.

love mine - I think maybe Guyot couldn't handle the demand and Nalgene was brought in, but I'm not sure

? for AKennedy. Do you also use the GSI cups? I'm not real happy with my Olicamps as they have cracked down the side. I'm not wanting to have the same issue with the GSI's

What were you doing when the cup split?

My brother, my friend and I all have the GSI, and no problems so far....

I'm not sure why they cracked, possibly from being flexed when handled or banged/squashed in pack. I am sure it is because of the way the handles are designed to fold. The old Sierra type cups and the Coleman SS camp cups had fixed handles in which the wire went completely around the rim. Added rigidity to the lip of the cup. I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this issue..The Olicamps were cheap, like $5 from Campmor. Thet were just so I could test the design. Maybe the GSI's are thicker/heavier steel? But I'd like to know before I put my money down.

Nalgene is the Guyot distributor. Guyot was having import issues and Nalgene stepped in to assist in resolving them. So far, it has been a very good thing.

The GSI cups are great and the 18oz one we have is designed to nest with the bottles. So far, we have neither had issues with them nor heard of any. Good stuff. They are a hair larger in diameter tho, and do not fit in some of the bottle holders well (like the Mini Rollypoly and the Nalgene Big Pocket Carrier). Something to be aware of.

I personally prefer my kleen canteen to the guyot designs. I like the narrower neck - it's easier to chug without spilling, and it helps hold in a little more heat when I'm putting the bottle directly in a fire to boil water (with the lid removed, obviously).

In my eyes, that's the biggest benefit of stainless water bottles - remove anything plastic from them and they can be used to heat water, either to kill creepy-crawlies, or to prepare a meal. Can't beat that.

I never had an Olicamps, and so I don't know about that...

But, I have found the GSI cups to be pretty solid, and I always store them around the bottom of a bottle, so no crushing.

One issue I have had is fit. Sometimes they won't fit around a Nalgene, or they would fit a HDPE bottle, but not the Lexan or Tritan bottle.

I had one do the same thing. It got bent a little and the lip cracked, and it split down about a quarter inch.
