Guys with sebs at least 8 years old. Do you like you knife with character marks and scratches or looking like it just came back from the spa ?

I have 3 large regs. 2 of mine were users when I bought them. 1 just came back from the spa, a Metor Shower. Back scale & clip are smooth with some scratches now.

The other, a Moon Song, really needed a trip to the spa...Scratches on the front scale and blade, the back scale

and clip were very smooth and worn with scratches. I sent it back to CRK just to have them clean the front scale. I Really like

the way it looks....no worries about more scratches anywhere.

I thought this thread was about older owners, hmmm never mind

Yeah, me too. Lol.

The last one I just sent in for double lugs I asked them to leave the scales as is. Gives them that lived in look.

My seb is only about 3 months old and is looking like new. But if I had to send it in for some reason in the future, and the knife had developed trails from my personal use, I believe I would have asked CRK to leave the sandblasting be.

In my eyes the sebenza look better used, as long as the trails are somewhat evenly distributed over the scales and not just in one area of the knife.

I've never had one of my users get overly marked up, probably because I carry in a sheath most of the time. Either way I have never felt the need to send one in for beautification.

This one of my favorites. It's a 2001 reg with stars and stripes CGG and A LOT of character. I struggled with keeping it as is or sending it in for a spa. For now i think i'm just gonna keep it as is and enjoy carrying it with out worrying about scratching it up. I'm also a little reluctant to erase all the history this knife has accumulated on its journey.

I like the character marks. I would rather buy an original with scuffs than a fresh from the spa Sebenza.

All of mine are older save for the few 21's I have.

I'm split. I like when the titanium on any of my Sebenza's gets scratched, but I don't like scratched inlays.

The spa treatment is a wonderful service offered by CRK. That said, I like users that show their mileage and keep going strong. As well, if it looks like a user, I tend to USE it instead of storing it.

I love the look of older user CRK's... beautiful in my eyes. :)

I prefer the character marks. Refurbishing will only get marked up again, so there really is no point. I have had knives refurbished in the past(sometimes by request, sometimes by accident) , but have no plans to do it again. It probably is just me, but I sort of resent seeing re-blasted knives sold as LNIB.

I recently bought a Zaan on the Exchange with some (fully disclosed) marks on the scales/clip and some blade scratches. I was planning on sending it in for a spa treatment and paying to have the blade refinished. I have since reconsidered - I really like the battle scars - it adds character. Especially since it is in my carry rotation.

(As far as the LNIB - I would hope a spa treatment is disclosed in a sale listing. I guess sometimes I am too trusting and/or gullible.)

It would definitely upset me if i purchased a LNIB CRK and found out that the "LNIB" condition was a result of a spa treatment that was not disclosed. It's best to be honest when listing a knife's history and condition. That way everyone feels better about the transaction. It also lends to the trust factor that this forum has.

I also thought the same thing, but then It would have read "older guys with Sebenzas"

And it would have been possibly a risky click.

I have a bg42 large regular that is getting pretty sticky, but I have been holding off on sending it in for a spa treatment because I like the look of it the way it is, and I don't want to lose any of the detail in the scales.

Of course, I don't want to mess up the lockface by using it a bunch when it needs reheattreated either. Decisions, decisions.

You can request that they don't reblast it. I sent a knife that had the scotchbrite treatment in for a reblade. They contacted me to ask if I wanted the knife refinished. Since I regreted polishing it to begin with, I was thrilled.

Unfortunately in this case they will need to re-blast the lock side, do to the heat treat. I was in a similar situation with a pimped Matt Cucchiara(hopefully spelled that right-always have to look) Sebenza. I relented. If you want to preserve the scale side tell them, and maybe tape it.

Yeah, but...

That's what I was thinking.

It's just a plain jane Sebenza, albeit a pretty early regular with the original straight clip and no date in the scales. I should just suck it up and let the experts deal with it.

Been carrying my lg reg BG42 bladed for 15 yrs. Have used it from a steak knife, to dressing out game to scraping off head gaskets and anything else that need'd cut'n.
These knifes are TOOLS, and as such will show use.
Have no intention to send it in for a re-finish.
LG
