Got out for a nice hike today and brought some INFI along with me to add to the fun. My GW came in last week but hadn't had a chance to use it yet. Normally when I go out for a longer hike (2+ hours) I try to practice some outdoor survival skills along the way. Today was fire. (I should start off by saying that the GW was RAZOR sharp out of the box. Shaved arm hair with absolutely no resistance.) The GW made quick work of wittling a drill, making notches for the bow ends, and drilling the hole in the fire board. Unfortunately, never got flame from this as I was trying with leather for a bow string which kept stretching and coming loose, but thats a whole other story, but lesson learned on that one. Next came the magnesium and flint. The GW was almost too sharp for the mag rod as it was hard to shave the rod with it as it just kept digging in. Used some scrap cotton jersey material that my girlfriend had lieing around and voila, flame. When all was said and done, it was a good day and the GW game out the woods just as sharp as when it went in. Nice job Jerry :)

Nice, I like the bearded man stick, a walking stick?

Is the Hellrazor good for batoning through wood? dose the edged up spine break the baton alot?

Yep. My aunt carves custom canes and walking sticks. This one was a Christmas present from her about 8 or 9 years ago. Always take with me on hikes.

Works fine for batoning. I split the log that the fire plates came from no problem. No issues at all with batoning. Dents the batons a little bit, but never broken any. Personal prefernce wise, I'm leaning towards wanting a slightly larger blade like an FSH maybe.

Try using the spine on the mag rod...

Hadn't thought of that schuey. I'll have to try that next time. You know what works perfect though? The SK almost seems perfectly suited for it. Shaves the mag sticks like there's no tomorrow and I get really nice small, tight shavings. I have the SK rigged up with my HR and my Mag/flint kit in a Spec Ops Survival sheath so it's always handy, just thought I would give the GW a shot.

Save your INFI. Get a hack saw blade, cut off a 2-3 in. long piece, and use it for shaving... ;)

There's actually already one in the leather pouch that works fine, I just like playing around and trying different things.

aaronjayl,
Hey fellow Mainah,
Got to take my new GW out for a hike yesterday too. The family and I hiked up Blue Hill. Great day for a hike! Awesome view of the town and the ocean. It was a short one though. We have a four year old, so....

Anyway, nothing outstanding to report yet. So far the only thing I got to cut was a sandwich-in half.

Great pics!

HI ivan51. The SK is so skinny I just have the original Busse cardboard "sheath" inside the pouch of the Spec ps and the SK sticking out the side of the top...

Hey Scott, how goes it? Don't think I've ever hiked up that area before. Weather has been great the past few days though. Hoping it keeps up for tomorrow as I want to head up to the Mount Agamenticus area. Some real good hiking there on the back trails. You should take some pics next time you go out :)

Congrats on those INFI scores! Glad to see you had them with you on your hike. That walking stick looks great! Your aunt is talented. Does she carve with a knife or dremels?

Hi stabber. You know, to be honest I have no idea what she uses :o Judging from the pieces I've seen her do, I wold say a little bit of both. She's done some crazy ones like a full 360 degree carving of a pharoahs torso, fully painted. It was pretty crazy. Keep telling her to sell them, but she just does it for fun for gifts at xmas, bdays, etc.

Thanks for sharing the pics aaronjayl! The game wardens do kick arse (as any INFI does).

Sounds like you had a great time!
