I found a thread earlier talking about using an ESEE-3/4 MOLLE back for the HEST
and it ended with no conclusion. I had emailed Mike Perrin to ask if the ESEE-3/4 MOLLE back would fit the HEST earlier this week and he said it would. Well
it really doesn't, but for all intensive purposes it works well enough.
The second set of mounting holes from the top on the sheath fit the middle set of mounting holes on the MOLLE back. This configuration and these holes are the only ones that will line up. To secure the sheath a little extra I took some 550 paracord and tied it through the lower open holes on the sheath down through the bottom mounting holes on the backing. The holes line up fairly well, but not well enough to get screws through.
Everything fits nicely and the elastic band will cover the pommel of the knife, but I suspect that the pry bar will poke through and tear the elastic after some use. The only downside seems to be that you can only mount the knife facing one direction; I could not tap out the mounting hardware on the sheath to flip it around.
