H-1 vs. Titanium blades

H-1 knives are available from Spyderco and Benchmade.
My Salt 1 and Atlantic Salt are extremely sharp and they hold their edge for a respectable amount of useage.

I don't know who makes a titanium bladed knife and I have never used one.
So I cannot help you there.

it has been told to me that Ti dosent hold an edge very well and thats why they arent used

Sounds like H1 is a better performer with basically the same corrosion resistance.

Ti is very tough, impact wise and flexible, H1 is as well for a stainless steel. I had a few problems with Missions Beta-Ti in that it could gum up ceramic hones and didn't respond well to aggressive finishes, it simply didn't get the increase in slicing aggression and edge retention that steel does. It would be interesting to compare H1, Talonite, Dendritic Cobalt and Beta-Ti in similar profiles.

What model benchmades use H1? I have only heard of spyderco using it...
Thanks!

It was one of there fixed blades, model 100SH20(pretty sure).

They switched metals.

Can still be found though.

Mission Knife and Tool makes AWESOME titanium knives!! I happen to have one. I have a Mission MPF 1 that I LOVE.

The new version of the Benchmade River/Dive (model 100SH20) uses X15 T.N. Stainless. Boker also uses this steel on their Orca.
The Orca is something like three times the price, but it's a bigger blade/different design (5.25" spear tip vs. 3.23" blunt tip).

I thought somebody mentioned that X15T.N. has even better corrosion resistance... I have no idea if that's true. Cliff?

I have had a Mission MPF for some 8 years now. I rarely ever carry it because it does not hold an edge anywhere near as well as 440C. Start slicing on a cardboard box to make it smaller for the trashcan, it will not finish. The blade dulls rapidly. Titaniums usefullness is it will not break! It will not bend! It will not set off a mine!! I don't pry with knives. I don't work on mines. I don't need any more titanium blades. Benchmade did have a titanium bladed CQC-7, but it had a tungsten carbide cutting edge for edge holding. My Mission is now just a collection item.

titainium is softer than those high quaility stainless steel.
it is about hrc 48-52, but it is nearly non-corrisve in salt water .
for diving knives ,usually, are 420j steel as it is better than 440 series in corrosive tolerance t in salt water.
usually, high quaility stainless steel for knife is hrc 54 to 62.
very hard steel such as m2 ,t1, regard as high speed steel that can cut metal ,but it get rust easily .
