Hello, new to the forum and first time post 👍

I've recently aquired this H&B knife and whilst it's not my usual kind of knife, I can't get away from the fact that it's a bit of a beast.

I'm generally in to fixed blade tactical / military stuff and this obviously is not...

A couple of guys have told me it's a really good thrower and to keep it. I'm considering throwing soon but the knife is pretty cool and don't really want to bend or damage it ha ha...

Anyway, could anyone shed any light on it please? Is it any good ?

I've never thrown one, but according to their web site, it "was originally designed to be an overall camp knife that could be used for making kindling, chopping, cutting, throwing, etc. And it does all of those things very well. But it turns out it is an excellent throwing knife as well!"

I just philosophically have a problem with a camp knife that is good for camp tasks and for throwing. Just because a knife throws well doesn't mean it should be thrown often. I have several throwers I made BASED on the BK9, but they're just that - based on, and are significanly softer than the BK9.

The typical camp knife would have a significantly harder blade that a throwing knife. From what I have learned (not everything by any stretch :D) throwing knives are usually 44-52 and hard use camp knives are currently made in the 58-61 range. While a sharp edge can be put on a "soft" throwing knife, it would need to be resharpened frequently if really used as a camp knife.

At 1.41 lbs or 22.6 oz, it's a quarter pound heavier than the largest I throw, which is 19.6 oz. It's advertised as a "Rendevous" thrower and i looks to be fine for Mountain Man throwing which is handle only throwing IIRC (haven't gotten involved with that style yet). I don't think it would work well for 1/2 spins/blade hold throwing, but again I haven't held one.

if that has the leather handle scales i wouldn't worry about throwing it. i have the other one they make for throwing and it really packs a punch when you stick it. the handle takes some abuse but the leather is very forgiving.

The scales are wooden. And it is damn heavy (I assume for thrower)...
It is a really cool knife in the hand but I've had a couple of offers of trade today, so it might be leaving my collection soon.
Thanks for the input though 👍
