I recently received both the medium and the large polled camp axes from H&B Forge. I gotta say, they are both AWESOME tools and the fit and finish are incredible for the price you pay. As far as performance, they both chop well above their size.

Ive been chopping and cutting a bit and decided Im only going to keep the medium camp axe.
Ive always wanted to try the Condor Pack Golok so I think Im going to give up the large axe to go that route.

They really do nice work at H&B Forge. They are great people!

What's the steel? Any info about heat treatment, hardness etc.?

IIRC H&B's are 1020 forged around a 1095 core. I have no means of measuring the hardness but they seem to be about the same hardness as a machete or perhaps a few degrees harder.

I had an email conversation a while back with Jared and the target hardness for the cutting bit is around 55 HRC. Steel is a 1018 body with a 1095 cutting bit forge welded in.

The 1095 strip goes pretty much all the way back to the eye. I patinated two of my H&B's with apple cider vinegar and salt to grey 'em up a bit on the top & bottom of their heads and the 1095 strip is VERY noticeable after that.

It took me about 5 weeks, but they are worth it. Cold Steel tomahawk just don't even come close to the level of quality from H&B forge

Good to know, thanks for letting me know. I have a Shawnee and Medium Spike Hawk on order from the first of June for my Fathers Day present from the family. I am in no hurry so whenever is fine with me. I was just curious as they tend to get orders out faster than the wait time notice for orders. They are good people and Jarrod is a proud, new father from what I read on their FB page.

I still havnt received my 2 hatchets and striker that I ordered 4/9.

May I ask the date you ordered yours and received it?

I did email them and they said they would start the April orders in June but a FB post said they are starting March orders in June. Wasn't in a hurry and I've read of the quality but getting anxious.

If you want to wait a long time, try Ft Turner. I've been waiting over 67 weeks now for the last tomahawk I'll ever buy from them.;)
