has anyone else noticed the price increase over at H&B? nice to see a great company get a raise...

Free Enterprise Markets operate entirely on "supply and demand". Kudos to niche firm H&B to figure that they are ahead of the curve (ie decide to raise prices) and yet figure to 'keep on truckin'. I don't own, or lust over, any of their stuff but that's just practical ole me and buying 'an' axe, for most people, is usually a one-time event. Many of this generation of N Americans is filthy rich and have bags of disposable income and as customers they count in the millions. H&B, in fact, does make labour-intensive superb implements and if they've decided to cater exclusively to wealthy weekend warriors instead of frugal and traditional choppers: all power to them.
Producing what the public "needs" is a radically different concept from making what the public "wants"!

They are still far away from catering to wealthy weekend warriors LOL. Their large camp axe has only risen $10 to $70.
There was an article in Backwoodsman magazine that just came out that did a review on their medium camp axe. They got FLOODED with orders, which almost doubled their usual wait time. So the demand has gone up, and rightfully so, price went with it.

As far as I can tell only the polled camp axes went up. Their other hawks stayed the same.

A few bucks on some items, but a new website and internet shopping cart style ordering, which is a nice change.

I dont see anything wrong with droping a dime, placing my order with Mary and some personal chit chat. Even with the small increase in price you can't go wrong.

I read that review. I look for that mag every two months at my local grocery store. It's a great read and full of little tinker projects to play with. They even published one of my letters upon a time.

Which would you guys recommend, the large or medium camp axe?

I had the large and felt it was too heavy. I gave it to my then 15 year old nephew for his birthday. (Oops, didn't tell his mom until he opened it!) and got the medium for myself. It's just about right, not to big, not too small.

I have an unmarked 'hawk that looks quite a bit like one of these, and it's decent quality. I can't remember the weight of it but it's damn heavy.
