Hello All,

Does anyone have any info on H&B Forge Hawks? I am looking for a hawk to throw, and I am considering the Viking Axe, Shawnee Hawk, and Medieval Spiked Head. The Link can be found here: www.hbforge.com/tomahawks.html

Thanks to all who respond.

The Viking axe has a heavy blade with an edge much longer than the 4" permitted at most competitions. I haven't thrown mine, but the forward edge/point looks like it would stick well on throws where the handle ends up perpendicular to the target.

The Shawnee has a much more traditional hawk weight and configuration. It is certainly a good entry-level hawk and H & B is a very reputable family business (nice folks too).

If you are serious about competitive throwing, you should also check out www.2hawks.net Two Hawks' work is in a higher price class than entry-level hawks, but his Competition model has wonderful design, balance, finish, and tight fit. It has been used by some winners of major competitions.

I bought a Shawnee hawk a couple of months ago and I'm very happy with it. My experience with throwing tomahawks is very limited, so I don't want to try and comment on how well it performs in that respect.

I can, however, vouch for how sturdy its construction is. I used it to chop down an aspen tree awhile ago just to see what it could handle. Felling the tree only took five minutes or so and I checked the condition of the hawk afterwards. There were just some very minor problems with the edge that sharpened out almost immediately and the head was still tight on the handle.

I'm sure I'll get something else from H&B at some point. (The Medieval Spiked Head might be cool. I don't need it, but I want it! ;) ) Their stuff may look a little rough, but they seem to offer an increadibly good value.

Will Barber makes good stuff. I just got a custom Viking Bearded ax from him and it is great. They aren't as pretty as some of the high dollar hawks, but for 1/5th the price you can probably deal with a blemish or 2. Probably worth twice what I paid for it, seeing as it is A) custom made, B) hand forged in America, not India or Pakistan by slave children. Already placed a second order with him. H&B rules.
