I'm thinking of getting the forged pipe hawk.I like the shape and the size seems it be just right for what I want in a hawk.I'm looking for someones first hand impressions of this hawk as both a user and a smoker.

I looked over the website, and if it were me (although it is NOT me)...
I would NOT get the beaded pipehawk, but rather the plain forged version...
I would then treat it as a 'looker'... I would not throw it, or use it for chopping...
It would, however, make a VERY nice addition to almost anyone's collection!!!

Yeah, and buy a nice maple handle for it. Speaking of which, hod you guys afix the the hawk heads to those nice maple handles without scarring the wood up?

You mean scarring the skin right? There are wedge pins to secure the axe onto wood right?

If you have ever used a pick axe then you can see how the head is not going anywhere.

Very fine example Mr. Mayo, you mean to say a larger head means the axe isn't going anywhere I think am I right?

However I've seen some samples where the axe head is inserted from the opposite end of the handle end and the axe head is secured by wedges inserted into the eye thereby enlarging it achieving a similar effect.

Sorry if I seem a duh-case but I'm very new and learning as I go along but loving it all the way :) Thanks to makers like yourselves willing to share input.
