Hello all, first post.
I have been lurking searching and reading.
I am trying to decide between h&b's large camp hawk or the shipbuilder.
Any advice or opinions would be very welcome, thanks!

Welcome to the forum, Cdog!

What are your intended uses of these fine tools? That might help folks focus their recommendations.

I am simply after something to carry while hunting and scouting as well as shed hunting.
This would be my first hawk of any kind.
The beard really catches my eye, although I have no idea if it is any more practical or has any real advantage for me.

I think the medium Camp Hawk would fit your needs better for that type of activity. I went with the small Camp Hawk for the same type of activities, but I'm pretty certain that I will be using the medium as well. I also have the H&B Boys Hawk and absolutely love it. If you don't want a poll it would be a good option. The medium Camp Hawk has the same size head as the Boys Hawk. I have their Shawnee as well, but find it too big. It is good for throwing. The large Camp Hawk has the same size head as the Shawnee with the additional weight of the added poll.

Great info thank you.
I have to say I'm a bit suprised that they are a bit too big as I had perceived from videos and pics that they all were quite small/light.

I'm considering what H&B hawk to get. I have a 2hawks Longhunter which is the size of the H&B Medium Camp Hawk. This makes for what I consider a nice, light tool to carry during warmer weather months. It helps feed a small portable backpack wood stove. For colder weather in the fall & winter when more wood is needed, I carry either a GB or Wetterlings hunters axe. These will better process wood for a larger fire. (BTW, I also carry a saw.)
So it comes down to what the hawk will be used for and under what conditions. And also what tools you already have & your personal preferences.
