I was looking into picking up an ESEE-3P and came across the H.E.S.T.

Is the H.E.S.T. manufactured by Rowen?

Who or what is DPx?

Is the H.E.S.T. covered under the ESEE warranty, because it isnt on the esseknives.com website.

Does the metal undergo the same heat treating as the Rowen blades if it isn't made by Rowen?

Is the blade of the H.E.S.T. the same as the blade on the ESEE-3P with the exception of the cord breaker and such?

Will the H.E.S.T. fit all sheathing options available for the ESEE-3 / RC3?

Thanks for your time and wisdom.

1) The HEST is currently manufactured by Rowen but is being discontinued
2) Go to the DPx forum to learn more about DPx
3) HEST fixed blades made by Rowen are covered under the ESEE warranty. Anything made after Rowen ceases to manufacture HESTs is NOT covered.
4) Heat treat of a Rowen HEST is the same as other ESEE models
5) Same blade? Not sure what you mean
6) most all

Awesome thanks for the quick and thorough response Jeff. I think what I meant as far as same blade was sort of the same question as the 6th - sheathing options. Blade shape and length etc. Is there a particular reason the HEST is being discontinued? Thanks again.

the fixed HEST will now be be made elsewhere, check the DPx forum for details.

DPx is Robert Young Pelton's brand, again, check his forum for details. it's in the manufacturer's section. i can't explain why he always seems to use his full name, and not just first and last, but he does.

ESEE will warranty all the Rowen marked HESTs

the HEST is a thicker knife that the 3 with a different shape, so i don't think any of the 3 sheaths will work. sounds like you haven't even seen a pic of the HEST, once you do, some of this should be clearer. there was a sticky post at the top of the ESEE forum explaining the split with DPx, if it was still there, it would explain some of this.

The new HEST blades will be made by TOPS.
RC3 blade is 1/8" thick, HEST blade is 3/16"
Other than having similar length cutting edges, the 2 are very different knives - when comparing the in hand feel there are no similarities to heft, balance, etc...

Found the thread on DPX and ESEE - all my questions have been answered. No further posts needed. Thanks.

I see some confusion.

The heat sheath will take most esee 3 sheath addons, like the boot clip. The hest will not fit in a three sheath. Totally diffrent blades the hest is a fatter blade with a diffrent grind
