H.E.S.T. (screw removal) question

Just received my new H.E.S.T. today, and as I suspected, I am beyond impressed with it.

I love the fact that you can add items in the hollow handle...which leads to my question:

I'm sure most of us would have some kind of multi-tool or other items to get inside the H.E.S.T., but, if in the woods (or anywhere else) and you don't have the means (multi-tool, pocket knife, etc) to unscrew the scales, what do you use?

I got to thinking about it and, for now, I put an aluminum soda tab on the lanyard. I was actually surprised that the tab unscrewed the scales (and the screws were on tight). Also, I figure if you damage the aluminum tab, it's very easy to replace....:D

My HEST came with about a 14 inch piece of paracord looped through some holes on the kydex sheath, and on that piece of paracord is a clip(?) and also they threaded a small washer on there. That's what the washer is for, to unscrew the scales in the field.

Mine didn't come with the washer, but I believe I will replace the aluminum soda tab with one...:D Very useful info. Thanks!

A Craftsman Four-Way Pocket Screwdriver for a keychain, one of my favorite keychain tools. A P-38 Can Opener will work, too. And the mighty dime, it doesn't purchase as much as it used to, but works for this job quite nicely.

mINE HAS THE WASHER ALSO, WORKS LIKE A CHARM, OR YOU CAN SHAPREN A STICK AND USE IT, SORY ABOUT CAPS LOCK

I keep a little screw driver inside the handle, just in case I want to remove the handle. :p

Nah, mine came with a washer. One could simply use a zipper from pants or packs, the rim of a brass, or a knocked out tooth of the enemy.

Enemy tooth....big toe nail..........Dang, you all have to stop....I just spit coffee all over the place. That's some funny stuff....hehehehe

6mm flat washer fits on a paracord lanyard just fine.
