Sometime ago I saw some pictures of a H.I Ginunting sword. They looked very nice and would be somthing I wish to add to my collection. Could however not find it on the H.I site. Is it out of production or was it just a limited run? What was the price they went for?

I wasn't even aware of this one! Being half Filipino myself, I find this pretty neat :thumbup:

BTW, there's really no such thing as "out of production" with HI - just "not in regular stock." Send Aunty an email and ask her how much it would cost to have one made up for you. Might want to include this link as well in case Aunty doesn't recall right away: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=434759&highlight=ginunting

Looks like that one went to Idaho.... would like to see one of those myself

Now that`s a way more manufacturers should learn from :D

Thanks for the info everybody, I can see myself getting one of these in the not to distant future.

I have a fairly nice one from another place that I won't mention nor will I show a picture of it here.
They are nice weapons and very lethal indeed. I need more training in this sort of blade though.
I am more of a traditional knife fighter if you know what I mean and these are fairly special blades.
I still like having it though and wouldn't mind picking up an HI one as well.

I remember the first one the kami's made based on a photo, they got the profile correct, but the spine was where the edge should be, and the edge where the spine should be, thus the grip was also backwards. so it was known as the 'backwards sword' from then on. still bought by a forumite who i believe turned the grip around & found it to be a good sword that way round too. after rework:

they even made a few more 'backwards swords to duplicate the one above (grip correct way around) .

search the forum & cantina on 'ginunting' or 'gununting' (and/or backwards) for more tales ;)

Beautiful blade. I understand the ginunting is standard issue for the Filipino marines. :thumbup:

I do have a ginunting from the maker who makes them for the Filipino marines. It is for sure a great blade with great balance. I do have one from another maker as well. You might say my training in Fma and Pekiti tirsia in particular have had quite an impact on what swords I choose. One thing I liked in particular with the H.I ginunting is the wider blade profile it has. It is also a bit straighter than most other ginuntings I`ve handled and as such it reminds me more of the Binagon sword which to my understanding is the "forefather" to the modern ginunting.

@kronckew:
It`svery funny it was made a version like that! I have a son who is soon 3 years old and he has handled one of my aluminiumtrainers. And he always holds it the wrong way because thats how the "pirateswords" he has seen looks like.
It is for sure quite a special design.

The one I have reminds me of a Toucan's beak more than the one HI makes....

I kinda like that about it.
