A few months ago I bought a B.A.S. for my duty bag. I put it through some brutal testing before I trusted it enough to stake lives on. The tests can be seen here http://www.bladeforums.com/ubb/Forum53/HTML/000470.html

I have always felt there is a spirit to this knife, it has a personality all its own. That is not something I would normally say about an inantimate object, but in this case I believe it to be true.
A few days ago I was driving down a suburban road when I saw the local P.D. out with a truck from the County Drain Commision,
They were shooting a line with their laser level thing down a hill, the local P.D. was stopping traffic for them. In the interest of intradepartmental cooperation and good faith (and a little cuiosity) I stopped to see what was going on.
It seemed the top of a small tree was in the sight line of the surveyors and they wanted to find a rope or cable to pull the tree down.
Well, I returned to my patrolcar and came back with my B.A.S. the same words came out of three mouths "Oh $h*t what is that?" I gave them a quick run down on H.I. and then used removed the tree for them.

The BAS chopped through it in about 25 easy strokes, every time the blade hit the tree a shower of wood chips sprung out.
The balance, design and weight of over a half inch thick of Sher forged steel quickly made short work of the tree.

This is the same knife that I wrapped in cardboard and duct tape and used the spine to smash cinder blocks.

I know this wasn't a life or death situation but it is nice to know that my H.I. BAS will handle anything I threw at it.
I came back a couple days later with my digital camera and took these pictures, I knew you all would enjoy them.

Thank you Uncle Bill. I am sorry I have been a bad nephew and not kept in touch. Every time I hold the BAS a little bit of Nepal awakens in my heart.
Be safe,

Nice report and pictures! I think I should pick one of these BAS khukuris! I usually keep an 18" Chiruwa style Khukuri in my patrol bag. COmes in handy when I have to chop stuff in the field and also came in handy during an attempted carjacking. When the scumbag seen my khukuris blade, his eyes popped out and he just ran away! Nothing like a good blade!
