H.I. Prince Knife: To us, or not to use...

... that is the question.

I've been seeing the prince knife showing up in the dotd frequently and the beauty and craftsmanship has sold me. This will be my first Himalayan Imports khukuri and I know I will want to use it. To all actual and hypothetical owners of this knife or any beautiful knife with ornate and utilitarian qualities,

1. Do/would you use it?

2. Would you take it camping?

3. Would you split wood with this knife?

and to any of the folks at H.I.

Is this covered under general use warranty?

Thanks

edit: I'll probably end up put it in a case with a sign that says, "break glass in case of zombies" but I still want to know what people think.

It is a decorative khukuri, not meant for camp usage or even hard general usage, although i doubt clearing small brush and cutting meat would hurt it. It is in no way a "field useage" khukuri. One must be aware, that with decorative inlayed khukuri such as these any type of hard usage may dislodge or break the inlays. The blade, tang and their mating though, are built to H.I.'s tough standards. It is not warranted for chopping wood, but, the blade and handle are probably covered under general use warranty, but the inlay will likely not be.

Yep, I wouldn't use it as a go-to field knife simply because it has fragile decorations on it. That said, I bet if someone took one out into the bush for 3 months most of the inlays and such would be gone, but the blade and handle would be rocking and rolling just fine.

I'd like to get one as a carry piece/gentleman's knife. I have no REAL use for it, but then again, I haven't had a REAL need for a khuk in over a decade:) I just really think this one is a cute little knife. Stout and whimsical, much like I would expect a fabled adventurous prince of the region to wear in his sash.

I totally agree. Obviously If I put one of these through a piece of wood the inlay would be scratched to hell and the decorations on the handle would be falling off, but the steel should hold together like other khukuris. I think I will start with a BAS, and get a prince knife later as a display piece.
