I don't want to get into trouble here but if the Kamis can make an AK Bowie or Katana maybe they can make a real nice Smatchet.---

What do ya think guys?

Nah, just have Pala tell Bura that the customers had been gonna ask, but they didn't figure the kamis were up to doing it right... That we'd thought about Yvsa sending a prototype, but didn't want to let ourselves in for the inevitable disappointment ( sigh ).

Be great if close to the original size, maybe a little thicker. ---Where's Yvsa --He the man!

What good does letting the old coots retire do if ya can't free 'em up to do some serious work?

A Smatchet would be cool

, but for me a H.I. Barong with a 18" blade and a 5.5" handle would suit me more.

Any word yet Uncle about this blade?

I don't know about a smatchet but I would be up for a skatchet. Don't know where dad put mine. He probably doesn't either. For those who don't know, the skatchet was basically a small hatchet head that could be used like an ulu or a handle could be placed in the threaded eye. I would be up for one of those.

Jay, what size of smatchet do you have in mind? I know only two types. One is 5inch blade like S&W, and Boker. The other is Al Mar's Combat Smatchet with 10 inch blade. The former seems to me closer to its original OSS smatchet, the latter is my favorite size and guess a modified Gelbu Special with double edge is as close as imaginable.

I must wait till I get my first GS to make a decision if it needs MORE or not...

Mizutani --I am going to try to find the specs on the original British armed forces Smatchet, which seems to be about the length of the palm to the elbow or a little bit larger I think, but exact specs would be better.

Also the pommel is similar to the AK Bowie. I'm not sure what the original looked like before Applegate & Fairbairn modified it. I know they made two sizes also.

Jay, thank you for the information. I should have think of the name... it must be closer to matchet than a dagger.
