I just got my first H&K and I must say I'm somewhat dissapointed. It weighs as much as a boat anchor, its uncountable to hold and the blade action is slow. I don't own a Benchmade but seen many and was expecting more. I guess I shouldn't complain for $35.
My main question is what steel do they use in the H&K's? I've heard 154CM but I doubt it. I know that is what they use in the Benchmades. BTW I'm new here.
Thanks

iirc they use D2 on most of their models unless it's a lower end one then they usually use AUS8 or a #cr#mov variant. Which model do you have? By slow do you mean it's an automatic? Or just feels a little sluggish/not as smooth as you expected?

Definitely post a pic! and welcome! :)

Benchmade didn't make all the H&K models, only the Axis lock ones to my understanding.

H&K being a seperate (gun) entity outsources their name to other knife manufacturers.
The Taiwanese and Chinese made ones, more then likely what you got for $35, are not made by Benchmade, and use 8cr, 9cr, and aus8 steel.

H&K knives are all Benchmade, but the Chinese made ones aren't made by the Benchmade factory in Oregon, but contacted out much like Spyderco has factories in China, Japan, Taiwan, ect. They are Benchmade designs and made to their specs (they used to be the Benchmade red class line). At that price point it's most likely a Chinese made in 8cr13mov

Not sure what you were expecting from a $35 knife, but you most likely got what you paid for.
Benchmade did not make that knife. The Red line has been out of production for quite some time...at least a couple of years.
Did you buy it new?? Where?? Again, which model??
Like has been stated earlier, most likely Chinese blade steel. 8cr, 9cr..........
A pic would be great.

I'll try to get a pic up. It says made in China on the box I thought it was made in the US. I bought it on eBay as I do a lot of knives, sometimes the experience is good sometimes its not. Its not a auto just the action is a little slower than I like. The model of the knife is the UNSUB.

If its 9cr then that would be ok I've had pretty good luck with that but then I've had good luck with 7cr as long as it's normal use.

Huh, didn't realize they had cheap models - I have a Patrol automatic and it is a very decent knife for the money, but it was also ~4x more $ than the UNSUB and was made by Benchmade. Now that they got rid of the HK brand they are asking about 50% more for the very same knife but with Benchmade markings and a new name, the "Casbah". At that price point, IMO, a Protech would be a better choice.
