Hello all, Does anyone have any experience with the P30? Specifically, how does it compare to Glocks for reliability and accuracy? I want to get one for my wife but I haven't heard much about them. I was looking to get her a S&W 38 but then a local shop owner showed me this. I know H&K is a very reputable company with the MP5 but I am not sure on how their pistols rate.

Things I like about this gun:
light weight
Adjustable grips
9 mm
night sights (non tritium)
placement of mag release
hammer release button
protruding bullet lever (can tell if a round is chambered)
rail system for flashlight

Cons:
Cost
no idea on how reliable the gun is (where Glock is renown for its reliability/no jams)

The P30 is the Newest H&K on the block and a better design from the USP version , I can not stand the USP mag release... Reason I passed on purchasing a USP 9 a few months back now that H&K release the P30 I love the Revamped H&K vs the USP.the P30 feels good in my hands too.... H&K has reliability w/o a doubt if it stamped H&K there is quality behind that name ....
I would purchase the H&K over a Glock but that is just me

protruding bullet lever (can tell if a round is chambered) One Reason I love my XD 9 they've been doing that for a long while....

i looked at one of those at the gun show a couple weeks ago, very nice gun, if it follows hk's usual quality its gonna be a great shooter and reliable, and just really did the uber batman styling.

felt great in the hand too. just too bad its freakin expensive, you can buy 2 glocks for the same money.

take it easy

Before you buy make sure you're comfortable with paying about $50.00 per spare magazine--that is when you can find them.

H&K pistols are high quality, but they are poor performers in the category of value for your money.

20 rounds of 9mm in fullsize handgun. my father in law disliked his (sold it for a sig 226)

i got to fondle one at the gun show last month. I have to say that it is a pretty nice gun. HK is top of the line, and you will probably pay top of the line price for one. As far as reliability goes, they are up there with glocks.

I dont have the P30, I have the full size 9mm, .45 USP models & the .40 & .45 compact USP models, I also have the Glock 19, 26 and 30 models. My favorite H&K is the full size USP .45, and my favorite Glocks are the 19 & 26. The H&K USP pistols are chunky (even the compact models are a little bulky) but are dead accurate and well made. I dont imagine the P30 is much smaller than a compact USP 9. Best to go to the gun shops and talk to the guys there, hold the pistols in hand, and if they rent those guns, try them before you buy them. The range "rental" guns have thousands of rounds through them, and you will see how well the gun works in heavy use conditions. I have yet to experience a malfunction other than ammo failure with either the Glocks or H&K pistols. I go to the range on weekends, avg. 3 times a month and I shoot a couple hundred rounds per month. I was also looking at a .38cal S&W model 442 , Chater Arms .38 Off Duty model and the Ruger LCR .38, for my first revolver. Charter Arms makes some nice revolvers (from what I have read and heard).

If its for your wife, Charter Arms and Ruger make pink colored guns (frames) for women, the Charter Arms Pink Lady .38 and the Ruger Raspberry LCP :barf:

Thanks for the feed back guys.
I didnt realize that the mags cost so much. Are they that expensive because they are new?

Good points byrd687.
Thats exactly why my initial thought were of the S&W 38. The handle fit her hand like a glove too.
She had a hard time handling the XD, and even the Glock subcompact had a fat handle where her pinky finger natuaraly rests so both of those where out.

Do they make a smallish 38 with a rail for a light?

Good input and thats exactly what we did today. Well after shooting a few hundred rounds of .22 with the kids and the wife:D
She hates pink though. She thinks it belittles women by catering to societies' generizations. But she did love the .38! Its cheaper too so I may end up getting that one and then save some money for a Glock for me!

I have the P30L and as polymer guns go I find it to be the best 9mm out. The grip/backstrap is adjustable, ambi mag release is nice. I find it very soft shooting making my folow up shots easy to get on target. 1800 rds thru mine never had a failure using Federal,Fiochi,Win,Swiss,Wolf any 9mm ammo for that matter

Cons are price, mag price and not true night sights.

I can second this. 3000 rounds of every sort of 9mm I use have gone out the pipe and down range. So far, no mis-fires or malfunctions of any sort.

It's a solid hand-gun ... and I believe it will prove to be extremely reliable.

Price? Yes, it is too expensive. Sadly for me, I have expensive tastes, and I just do not like the Glock grip.

I know you said she liked the .38, but if you haven't made up your mind for sure, check out the S&W M&P compact. Got the 9mm compact for my wife, she loves it, it has different sized backstraps for different hands. H&K are good guns, customer service sucks, and expensive for what they are. I personally prefer glocks. I really like her little pistol it feels great in the hands and for the size you got 13 rounds of nine, minus the double action trigger of a revolver. Just my .02. Good luck, lots of good guns out there.

Another con to perhaps add to your list (If your wife is not an avid shooter/handler) is that any semi-auto is more complicated than a revolver, especially the process to clear a misfire or jam.

with a revolver (like one of the ultralight rugers or S&Ws), you can just pull the trigger again on a fresh round, whereas a semi needs to be racked and cleared, which in the heat of the moment is not the easiest thing to do/remember if you haven't trained.

byrd687 has a good point, regardless of gun type, be it a pistol/revolver, the owner should train to use the gun proficiently. Problems reloading a gun could occur with a pistol or revolver, AND would more likely occur when the new gun owner is confronted or threatened for the first time. That is why a new gun owner should take into account not only the type/style of gun they want or like, but also the cost of training to be proficient at using that firearms in order to defend themselves. You have to practice to be accurate in order to defend yourself and avoid injuring bystanders. So, if cost is an issue, I would say stay away from H&K and .45cal rounds, both are expensive. Also, that would be a great way to spend time together, both of you go to the range and practice together. Just like hiking in the woods or camping out, spending quality time together at the range. As time goes by you will get more guns & ammo which makes you both happy and results in a better partnership and marriage :D:thumbup:

I love the look and feel of the P30 but Ive never shot one. But if its anything like my USP9C, its pretty awesome :)

:D CDNN has alot of factory mags for Springfield,Glock,Beretta ,HK, ETC all under $30

I don't know about the P30 but when I got my wife a handgun it came down to the difference between a pistol and a revolver. She never got comfortable with a Glock she could shoot it fine but loading the mag, racking the slide gave her problems. So she got an air-weight S&W 38. She is very comfortable and confident with the S&W.
