H&K Snody, is it any good?

Do you mean the HK-34/BM-1420?

If this is the one you're talking about, it's awesome. Incredibly smooth, great ergos, great grippiness, great blade geometry and I have a suspicion that it's my toughest folder, even though I own a Manix, a CQC-7, and a Mini-Skirmish. The steel liners are something like .075" thick. The only small detail that I find less than ideal is it's a little thick in the pocket. I don't know if I would necessarily change it because that would affect how it feels in the hand, but that's the only thing that keeps me from saying it's perfect.

I'm looking to get the 14210 next, which is very similar to the HK-34 but smaller, because I like the HK-34 so much.

Nice. Thanks for the write up. Sounds like a solid buy. Appreciate the help!

I have the 14210 and it's Awesome. Smooth and the G-10 is great fit and finish is what you expect from Benchmade.

I own an HK-34 and I think Longbeachguy is exactly on target. It is my fave tac folder.Definitely very very smooth got a good heft to it.For me it's a little big for edc.I use it for day hikes in the back country when a fixed blade seems out of place.A very tough knife I would be very confident using it in a possible survival situation.Course I'd throw the HK-34 to the curb in a heartbeat if I could lay hands on Hinderer xm-18.Maybe next Christmas?

I have a 14210 and really like it.. the problem is that I have a 960 and a 707 and a mini socom elite, and they all fight for pocket time.
Sometimes I have to carry more than one at a time to make them happy.
I highly recommend the 14210!

Perfect info for me! I was thinking about getting it for edc and was a bit worried about its bulkiness. Thanks for the help.

Personally after taking apart the regular line of BM and the HK ones I'd say that the HK line seem to be higher tolerances. Seriously these are some very consistant well built folders. You can literally take three HK34 knives or three HK29 models and break them all down to their bare parts all separated out in pieces and then put them all back together using each others parts sticking one blade in the other handle, scales from one knife on another and mixing up screws, lock parts or whatever and when they all go back together they are so tight and so well fitted you'd never know they were not shipped that way.

Try that with the others and see what happens. HK specs wanted a knife as high in quality and consistancy as their firearms. You can do the above with their firearms also. Its a trait that the USA also asked for when the M1 carbine was being commissioned and one of those things collectors always loved about that little gem. I'd say BM provided and came through for HK based on what I've seen. And yes. For the record I had three of each knife and did do this with them. I still have one of each model and would have to rate them two of the best folders made today. I really love this little HK29/14210 model. Great EDC knife.

I recently purchased the hk34/BM14200 and a Microtech mtx-2. These knives look very similar, though the hk is quite a bit thicker. The hk was a pleasant surprise-quality, functioning, and ergonomics are simply outstanding. Sooo smooooth. Love the axis lock.

On the other hand, while very nice, the Microtech was a bit of a disappointment. Nothing wrong with it, but the hk does it all (well, it isn't an automatic but with the smooth functioning axis lock, you can flick it open as fast as any auto) at least as well at gulp, 1/3 the price! Not sure if I will keep both but I know I will be keeping the hk....

I think the HK is available as an auto if one can get hold of one that is. You won't hardly find smoother working folders than these. I haven't anyway. The HK 34 and 29 models can both be Waved quite easily and they work as smooth as any you'll ever use.

Yes, the hk is available as an auto, but only with a serrated edge, which was a deal killer for me...Too bad as if I could have gotten the hk auto with a plain blade I would have never bothered with the Microtech...for around $110, the hk is an absolute steal!
