I am looking for a dependable single shot that i can use to teach my son to shoot. I have lots of .357 ammo and really dont want to spend more than $350.00. I am looking for one that has a very crisp trigger and is fairly accurate. Not sure which one is best as i have only handled a H&R many years ago and it was a 410 gauge so trigger pull was not an issue then. any suggestion? thanks

The H&R rifles are made in the USA-have good customer service/warrenty. The .357 is very popular Cal. a lot of folks ream them to .357 Max. and most all report the .357 to be a good shooter. If the trigger is a problem you may return it to the factory and they will do a trigger job for you, or you can do the job yourself.

I bought my son a H & R ultra hunter in 308. It was his first centerfire rifle and he was 14.He has had that rifle for 10 years and we have been very pleased with it.Accurate, dependable and a good trigger.

I've got the H&R in 45-70 and it's been great, plus they sell spare barrel assemblies in different calibers so it can grow with the child.

I have the Rossi Youth Matched Pair in .22lr / 20ga. For a $100 gun(s) it is perfect. Small, compact, and I won't be heart broken if it gets a scratch. I don't currently own an H&R/NEF but I plan to soon. IMHO it depends on what is most important to you. The Rossi's are somewhat cheaper. NEF is made in America and have a much better barrel program. IIRC you can get a NEF combo in .357mag / 20ga. Some don't like the receiver on these guns but it is one stop shopping. Let us know what you decide.
