Any thoughts on the Pardner as a "house gun"? (garden pest control, occasional squirrel/rabbit harvesting, shooting for fun).

They are practical guns. Not a lot of money. Make sure you know what the choke is in it since it's not easy to change. I also find them to recoil more than most comparable guns since they are light and usually don't fit me well.

For the price though, they are hard to beat.

I love it, its my all around gun. I love the simplicity and classic design.....its durable too

I take it to the trap range were everyone sports $5,000 trap guns and don't shoot a whole lot better.

I also take it hunting, its light and its always a conversation piece.

For a $125, how can you go wrong....with some practice you can reload fairly quickly

I bought one back in March and it was love at first sight! It's relatively light, shoots well and feels comfortable to me. My extractor was a little finicky from about shells 15 to 20 because there was some junk (metal shavings or something) in it. After that it cleared up and has been great!! My neighbor has had his since he was little. If young shooters will be using it, a recoil pad helps.

Mine sits just inside the barn door in a gun sock. I have a few extra shells in there with it and I know that it will work when I pick it up. It will put down a snake, raccoon or what have u with no fuss. My wife enjoys shooting it as well.

I bought mine for $75 almost 20 years ago. It's still as good as new and has a quality feel to it when breaking it open or ejecting shells. I like the size and weight for carrying through the woods but as was mentioned above, it kicks hard with 2 3/4" shells due to the lack of weight and no recoil pad.

I've had a couple of 20 gauge toppers and a couple of other 12 and 20 gauge single shots. I bought them all used and none of them cost over $100. They all worked real well for the price.

I have two in 20 and two in 12 ( one of each for me and my son), and got them at Kmart on sale for $62 each about 15 years ago! As stated, great simple shotguns!

Killed my first deer at age 7 with an old Stevens 20 GA single shot. That shotgun probably killed more game for me than any gun I have owned since. I used it all the way through High School.

Yeah, that H&R should be able to handle anything you point it at.

My go to gun for roamin' critter control and such is a H&R tamer 20 with the stocks changed to a standard choate shotgun stock and a choate store arm fore arm 34 inches long 5.25 pounds does kick a little with brennekke slugs but puts them right were your looking @ 50 yards likes #3 buck too!!

My rabbit gun over beagles is a H&R 26" barreled 28 ga :D

Those are little guns and I'm a big guy - 6'4" and 250#. The silly thing doesn't fit me at all and I shouldn't be able to shoot with it worth a dang BUT that's not the way it works. For me, that shotgun is a deathray. Mine is a 12ga but I've shot the 20ga plenty as well and they just perform. Tough to beat that for the money.

I have 2 20 ga. (1youth) and 2 12 ga. (Full stock)-1 of each is full and modified. Thay are one of the toughest and simple firearms around for the price. Use them for everything from deer, turkey, squirrels and bunnies. Also pretty good defensive weapon if loaded properly. Ammo can be found for cheap. What's not to like? If recoil is an issue add a pad.

Count me as a fan as well. I have 5 H&R's (3 shotguns, 1 rifle, 1 ML) and for me they are great. They are light so expect more kick than your typical repeater but a 20 should not be a problem, just keep it tucked in tight. That's mostly a range issue anyway, in a hunting situation you won't notice it anyway.

i have about 4 in my collection
* A 65 year old topper 48. 32" barrel "long tom" 12ga..This gun holds a pattern at 30 yards not much bigger than a coffee can lid..It destroys squirrels if your not careful.
* A "Buck" model 162 12ga with rifle sights, slug gun
* A 28ga
* A 20ga youth model Ive had for almost 30 years
