Howdy folks!

Here's another collaboration I've been working on with Ryan Weeks of Utah.

The pattern is a straight forward drop point utility pattern, designed as a slim, lightweight, unobtrusive knife for everyday use, hunting, fishing, mountain biking, backpacking- whatever. I had originally designed the pattern utilizing a raised clip/harpoon tip, but in my personal experience using knives, that feature seemed more of an embellishment although the additional lines added some pizazz.

Fortunately, Ryan was able to add his own pizazz by way of a beautiful hamon, an interesting cutout at the butt of the handle, (I've got so many designs in my book, I can't remember if I designed a cutout in the handle or not, lol) and sweet carbon fiber handle scales.

The knife will be getting a kydex sheath, and then I'll receive the prototype for evaluation, and maybe there will be more of this pattern available from Ryan in the future.

Sometimes it takes awhile to find the right people to work with, so I consider myself extremely fortunate to have found Ryan, cuz he is definitely the right people!

Cool. Really like your pattern. One thing I would not prefer is the jimping in the pinky grip area though, just my humble opinion. Is the tang tapered? Considering Ryan made it I assume it is....?

dunno about the exact specs, it's been awhile since I saw my drawing. Ryan likes to taper his full tang knives a bit, so my guess is this one's tapered.

I'm very interested to hear honest feedback/critique, (although, thanks for the props!) so please don't hold back.

Well since you asked. :D
I would lose the dropped ricasso, since it is a utility knife. I would personally just run the inner curve of the handle up to the back edge of the blade/ricasso area.
This would make sharpening and cutting on flat surfaces a bit easier.

Overall I like the design and it is executed in classy, Ryan Weeks fashion.

exactly!

thank you. Also, just to make it clear, I'm asking for feedback on the design itself.
If Ryan wants feedback/critique on his construction of this knife, then I'll leave it to him to ask for it.

I. Love. That. Knife.
Maybe a touch more symmetrical definition in the butt, but.... mmmmmmmmmmmm.
nicely done, nicely photographed!

I like the overall design; I wonder about the jimping in the pinkie area? Unless the edges of the tang are slightly radiused/chamfered and the tops of the jimping are taken off this will become a very uncomfortable area.

Huk of a knife, Lorien & Ryan! I like the overall design alot. I would tone down the jimping on the spine, and eliminate it around the handle. I like the dropped ricasso, and hope the tang is somewhat tappered. I can see this knife doing a lot of various chores.

Just found this Lorien. Thanks for posting it up, I also am completely open to criticism or suggestions on my end of the spectrum.

A few people have mentioned the jimping on the pinky drop. I have a high count checkering file so it is grippy but no where near uncomfortable. The edges are slightly rounded as well. And yes the tang is tapered, i could have taken it down a little more. I will try to get some photos of the Taper tomorrow.

I really enjoy working with Lorien, his designs are always well thought out and functional to the max.

here's where it started;

That is the one.... as you can see I stuck close to the original Design.

Just an update, My Kydex guy has the sheath finished up. On close inspection the CF was full of voids, they were mostly small but there were some that were just unacceptable. So I ended up "Painting" a thin coat of Acraglas over all the Carbon Fiber. It is ugly again, I will get it cleaned up tomorrow and get some photos with the Sheath. Sorry for the delay Lorien.

you know where I stand wrt your void issue, all the same, I think you made the right choice:thumbup:
the only way to catch perfection is to pursue it:)
