H1 blade..

Talonite is a cobalt alloy. These alloys don't rust because there's no iron to rust (rust, by definition, is iron oxide).

H1 "steel" is still mostly iron. However, instead of using carbon (like real steel), it uses nitrogen. The result is a alloy that doesn't rust. How this works, I really don't know. H1 does actually contain a slight bit of carbon, but much less than regular stainless steels (like ~1/10th the amount).

The end result is similar. A knife-worthy blade material that doesn't rust (or otherwise oxidize). H1 is significantly less expensive. Compare the Atlantic Salt to David Boye's dendritic cobalt knives. $55 vs $130.
