thanks

The resin beads wear out over time. Do a web search and you'll find places that sell them for very little. Replacing them is pretty easy.

Consider removing your softener. They're an environmental tragedy. Almost all of the salt that you put in ends up going out, down the drain and into the environment.

I'm not a big environmentalist, but I know a tragedy when I see one and dumping pounds of salt per day into the environment is one.

Don't fall for the shysters who will show you the precipitates they can get out of your water. They will then put a small towel or face cloth in a bowl and soak it in their conditioned water and soap will come out of it. Free soap products will come with their water softener. They will also want to sell you a reverse osmosis unit. Usually they will want to talk to both spouses so you can't hem and haw about "talking it over with the wife". There will usually be some promotional offer that will somehow expire if you don't "act now".

Actually, all their stuff is really good but you will have to pay 3 or 4 times what it's worth. The upside is that they will provide financing if that is an issue for you. Bottom line with these guys is if you're desperate, go for it, otherwise go elsewhere.

thanks for the info, have to have the thing in my area the water is very hard, soap wont even lather/etc, water is fine in austin but i live in a MUD and the water sucks, its safe to drink, the 'hood next to us is another MUD and they have problems with the H20 not being safe to drink, septic tanks leak in rain and pollute it, not good, thank god for small favors. if i didnt have to have it i wouldnt. ya can really tell when its not working.

am gonna look into fixing the thing, or maybe renting one, like $19.95 a month/6 month lease, might try that for a short term solution, that way if i have problems they have to fix for free, but until my old one started acting up (10 yrs old now) a few months ago, i had no trouble with it, just went thru lots of salt (about 200 lbs a month, give or take a little) and that adds up over time. i buy 15 50 lbs bags at a time, and it doesnt last that long, it is a lotta salt going somewhere lol.

thanks again guys

I don't have a real need for one where I am, although I have noticed that our local Home Depot now sells bags of potassium that can be used in place of salt. Supposedly the potassium works just as well as salt at softening the water, but is better for you.

my dr said that the pottasium was only necc if ya were on a low sodium diet/etc. is strange though that when the softner was low on salt(real low), the water tastes salty?? WTF is up with that??

did ya notice if the pottasium was the same price as the salt, or higher??
