Hack to the Rescue...

Walked out to the car yesterday after work and the windshield had patches of ice on it. I crank it up and do digging for my ice scraper. No luck. I could have sat in the car and waited for the defroster to melt it, but I was ready to get started on my 45 minute drive home. While looking for something to scrape the ice with, I though "what I really need is a small fixed blade". Then I remembered that I'd dropped the Hack in my pocket this morning. It worked fine, even if it was a little small. Edge held up fine. The best thing was that it was light enough that I'd forgot I was carrying it, until I needed it.

I've always worried that scraping ice from a windshield (what little we do down here) with a knife would scratch the glass, so I've never tried it. Glad you had your Busse when you needed it, though.

Hack's work great but an AK is faster :D

Glass is harder than most any knife blade, save for the ones with carbide edges and perhaps 67rc zdp. Due to both having smooth surfaces though you probably wouldn't have any issues with a max hardness zdp blade unless you dug the tip in with alot of force. I'd avoid using a TiN/PVD type coated blade as a scraper, since the coating is harder than the windshield and usually not smooth enough.

David, Where were you getting that much snow in Arizona????

I dont know where he is....but let me tell ya Arizona gets a massive amount of snow and ice. I've been up to flagstaff at what is it 7,000ft or so, more times than I can count. Sadly I've fallen on my a** a couple times in the hospital parking lot of all ironic places.

Only took one time for the PHX airport rental car attendant to have a laugh at my expense...no way I'll EVER take a rear-wheel sports car up there again, lol

Mmmmm, great college town :D

Thanks, Yoda. I guess I just never thought about it that way.
