I finally gotten mine, it was made in finland with the funny red plastic handles for under 20 dollars.

That should tide me over until my 42 comes in.

Ah yes, the so-called "CIA Balisong" since the rummor is that the CIA once issued them to field agents. I don't know if that's true or not. They never issued me one.

They were sold as a fishing knife. The large plastic handles make the knife float if it's dropped overboard and the red color makes it easy to spot in the water even at night. Also, the balisong design completely covers the blade so you won't cut yourself rummaging around in your tacklebox on in a locker on a boat and the thick handles also keep the knife blade a quarter of an inch or so above whatever surface you might set it down on. Since many surfaces on boats have water on 'em, this helps keep the blade out of the water.

Somehow, though, the James Bond tie-in is more exciting, don't you think? I can just see Q teaching 007 a few balisong tricks.

Hello!

Had a few of those a long time ago.
Almost too light to flip well and oh so loud!
Not click-clack, but BANG-BANG...
I remember having both black and red handled ones and the blade was very hard.
A pity that i didn't keep any of those

Hackman has discontinued them but one guy (dunno if he's the designer) is still making them. Mine is too tight for one-hand openings but I think it will loosen up.

On Chuck Gollnicks site there is a photo of one in his marketwatch link.
I remember when they were all over the place. When reasonably priced it is a decent knife.
