First, my question.

Has Buck made the 117 in any steel other than 420HC and 5160? Haven’t found any. Would like to see an S30V version or similar.

Now the poll:

Buck 117 -or- Buck 192?
Why?

Thought it might make for a fun discussion.

My thoughts are this:
I love the 117 because it fits me well. If there was an upgraded (stainless) steel option it would edge out the top spot no question. I also love the 192 (692AG series as it were) because of the rubber handle and S30V. So I would say the 692 beats out the 117 for me, but if it’s standard vs standard, the 117 beats the 192 for me.

I use my 192 as more of a skinning knife having the drop point but it also slices bacon really nice and some other regular utility cutting. I like the handle and it seems to be a good ergonomic for me. It think it is a very good design that will be around for ages.
I also like my 117 brass and cocobolo. I use it for most of the same utilitarian tasks as I use my 110 clip points for. There are many times I need the clip point for piercing or to puncture materials and it is a good all around type design. I like the handle size compared to the 102 and my fingers don’t get cramps as easy.
Both knives are excellent users for various tasks but also some different tasks for each their type design. I have both but the 117 gets used more often. And I agree if it came in s30v or S35vn I would buy one. But the 420hc has performed well and it ain’t no slouch!

I go back and forth between the cocobolo dymondwood/brass 420HC 117 vs. the cocobolo dymondwood/silver 5160 117. I like them both, but only need one.

I don't own a 117 and the192 is one of my favorite knives, so I went with the later. It rides in my truck in case of emergency and that will not change.

Since I have around 20 192's and zero 117's I'd have to say...well... I guess I really don't have to say.

SILVER trumps BRASS! It is your decision, I don't care for steel that will rust.

In my world. Users are carbon steel. They don’t rust they patina and get more and more beautiful with time.

Stainless is good for knives you want to look new for display.

I like the 117 it has a nice shape and is a great size.

I like both. 192 is a Vanguard right? being lazy this morning lol.
My 117 is now my go to steak knife unless i want to impress guest, then i whip out the Kalinga:D. 192 is just so cool looking in the hand and on the hip.
Since i had to poll 1 i chose the 192 on cool factor giving it the edge
