I am a person who has more than his fair share of Jack and Kentucky Deluxe, Jameson and Bushmills. I decided I would try some Makers Mark, well I did not care for it much and I finished off the bottle tonight. SO what do you suggest to try next?

well, Maker's is a wheated (or wheat heavy) Bourbon - and if you didn't like it much then I suggest you stay away from the Van Winkle and the Wellers as they're wheaters also... Granted, I don't like Makers either and I love the sh*t out of Van Winkle whiskey, but just understand that they're categorically similar to Makers...

I suggest a rye'd (or rye heavy) Bourbon, which is nearly all Bourbons other than Makers, Weller, and Van Winkle. Common and moderately priced choices are Wild Turkey 101 (or Rare Breed), Elmer T Lee, anything from Four Roses (I prefer the Single Barrel), and so on. There are 30 or so pretty good to great ones amongst the rye'd.

Give Elmer T Lee Single Barrel a shot; it's particularly enjoyable and less harsh than most. ~$30/750ml

and a big +1 to the George T Stagg if you can find it. It's barrel strength and amazing, IMO.

I second gentleman's jack, and evan williams single barrel!

similar to those would be Jack single barrel, or Buffalo trace.....most of the Jack varieties are fairly sweet and that is why i suggest the buffalo, also sweet, smooth, and just great all around!

No one's mentioned Bulleit yet, so I'll add it to the list. It's a rye'd bourbon that goes down smooth. Woodford Reserve is also good, but (surprise, surprise) it's a bit woody.

Rebel Yell Bourbon. . . So smooth you will be to the bottom of the bottle before you know it!!!!!. . . Cheap too!!!!

Let's Drink!!!

Yayee! Like that Yell indeed. It's just on sale here now and I'm surely going for it!
Last night I was drinking Jack's Single Barrel - love it too. And there is also nothing wrong about good old Beam Whiskey (e.g. Distillers Edition).
Na zdravi! (Cheers) from Olomouc

now now, Jerry, be nice... ;)

No, I'm serious!

My brother Dan and I were weaned on Rebel Yell. . . throughout the 70's and 80's. . . . and it was HORRIBLE!!!!. . . You could use it as paint remover. . .

A while ago, as a joke, I bought my brother a bottle of good Ol' Rebel Yell . . . . we hadn't had it in years. . . .

We tapped it and within an hour it was gone. . . as were we ! ! ! !

I don't know what they did to it, BUT Holy Smokes!!!!! It was AWESOME!!!!!

Probably one of the smoothest bourbons that I have ever poured down my bourbon drain!!!

Try it again man!!!. . . It will change your world!!!!!

Let's Drink!!!!

bulleit, Fighting Cock, Rare Breed, Ejijah Craig 18 for price

Rip Va WInkle for $48 is smoking.

I like the set of KC, Bakers , and Bookers so I have it rocks, neat, or with water.

Papy is great, but $100+ for a 750ml is tough:(

My current rotation:

Wild Turkey Rare Breed
Booker's
Pappy Van Winkle (23 year old....sipped sparingly at $200 a bottle)
Eagle Rare (17 year old)

I'm surprised no one mentioned Buffalo Trace - can be had for $25 or less in NY (which is cheap here - Maker's is usually around $30-$33) and WAY better than Makers. I consider it the Gateway Bourbon and it's my dependable go-to.
