Had to exchange 2 new knives in 2 days

My newly found knife fetish made me a little crazy this weekend and I purchased both a SOG Flash II and a Benchmade Sequel. Both of these knives are closing too far and the blade is striking the back of the handle causing significant dulling on that portion of the blade.

I exchanged the BM tonight and got the last one the store had. I've flicked it many times and the new one doesn't have this problem. I then inspected my SOG and found the same thing, not quite as bad but I can tell the blade is much more dull on the portion that is hitting. So I'm off to exchange that one tomorrow.

Anyone else see this problem often on "good" knives?

I have never paid any attention to that problem, though I wouldn't be surprised if one or more of my knives had it.

I did see a French company selling an interesting fix/ A thin plastic strip kit that fits in grips blade channel. The strip would take the hit for the handle, and prevent blade dulling. It weas pretty cheap, and cool, but I never bought the kit to try out.

Nah, I stay away from those cheap knives and use mostly Cold Steel, Kershaw, and CRKT pig stickers.

(Actually, BM and SOG have great reputations. You probably got a couple of bum models.)

Better luck next time!

I sent a BM mini-Skirmish back to Benchmade. THe blade was off-center and it struck one of the "inverted barrel" frame spacers, causing a "dent" in the edge more than 1/64" deep. It's been a month so I emailed them just to check on the status. That was Saturday that I emailed...maybe I'll hear something tomorrow.

I've never seen this on knives I own, SOG's included. Sounds like a manufacturing error that I'm sure either supplier will repair or replace for you. good luck.

Ha, yea I'm eying some fixed blades lately. Anyway I was able to exchange both knives without any hassle and the new ones aren't having that problem. I might not have been so concerned but it was definitely causing a dull spot on the blade.

Oh and instead of another Flash II I got a BM mini ambush that was the exact same price. I like it better and it will be my edc beater for work
