Had to make use of the BOB today

Hi Folks.

Never thought I'd ever make use of it, but had to use the bail out bag today. Drove into work as normal this morning, there was light snow on the roads. Mid morning, the snow started to fall heavily, and by 2.00pm, all staff were advised to go home. To cut a long story short, it appears all the offices and shops were doing the same, the roads were gridlocked, and a lot of vehicles were having problems gripping the roads.

I am fortunate in that I live just over 3 miles away. I just had my normal office wear on, so I was glad my BOB contained a North Face Gore Tex waterproof jacket and waterproof hiking boots. I was glad of the boots as the pavements were very slippy. Kept my feet perfectly dry and toasty too.

Just made it home now. It was the right decision to walk home instead of drive. All the way home was just a continuous line of cars stuggling along. I was actually walking faster.

Great story. Glad you made it home just fine. Being prepared can not only safe your life it can be down right fun too. How many others saw you walking by and thought that lucky guy at least he is going somewhere lol.

Now that I have had a couple of hours to reflect, it was definitely the right decision. I was in 2 minds as to whether to drive or not, especially at one point when the traffic looked like it was thinning.

When I'm walking and the roads are snow and ice covered, I pay particular attention to vehicles which are under poor or no control as the danger from being struck by a skidding vehicle which mounts the pavement (sidewalk) is higher than the environmental conditions I face as a head to toe e-Vent and Gore-Tex wearer!

Good for you. My co workers think I am nuts carrying around a small backpack with extra clothes and stuff but you never know especially in this winter weather when vehicles will break down, get snowed in,etc.

Great story and a great decision. I have heard parts of the UK are being hit really hard with unusual cold, snow and ice. I've had people question my BOB as well . . .until I pull something out of it that saves their rear end:D Glad you made it home safe.

Great story....Returning my boots and spare jacket in the truck!!!

Good Job!!! Nice to be prepared. (I could have spent 3 days in your parking lot and gained weight with my BOB :D)

Good stuff! I always take my daypack in my car with me, as well as a pair of boots.

Good deal ! I jeep a Bag of goodies in my Truck to along w/ my extra boots & coat . Just never know what the weather will bring in the winter !

Wow. You were prepared and ready to bug out with what you had in your bag. Sounds like a well prepared BOB to me.
