So while I was processing some firewood I must have hit a knot because the edge on my baby (my BK5) bent. I called up kabar telling them and they said to send her in. I hope the can fix her or send me a new one. I don't know what I'd do without my BK5.

someone tell me it's gonna be ok and I'll get my 5 back......

I'm willing to bet that you will get a replacement 5. I wish you had pictures just because pics almost always make your thread better.;)
Keep us informed.

It will be ok, you'll get your 5 back.

Next time, maybe bust out the BK2 ;)

That's pretty much why I've never purchased a 5. I feel it's too thin for batonning, plus it has the thin, blade length swedge. I know it gets used for that all the time, but I personally wouldn't use it for that. I guess that's why I'm partial to the 9. (and now the 4 too) It can do it all. Yes, they still break, but I think that has more to do with a nasty, twisted grain piece of wood more-so than a flaw in the metal. I like the looks of the 5, and have no doubt it's an awesome slicer, but I feel there are better choices for all round type work.

I have the feeling that while the BK5 is going to be discontinued, KA-BAR is sitting on the excess inventory for warranty work that has to be done with those in circulation.

You know that I've got bigger knives but I had my 5 handy. It was only 1x6 I was going through that's why I was so shocked about the blade bending.

I should have taken a picture. I've been off the forum for so long I didn't think of it. I'll post what happens when I hear back from kabar.

I was speaking in general, not specifically at what happened to yours.

It's cool bud. I've done more with my 5. If I didn't thing couldn't handle the task I would have but like I said I've done more with it.

I've seen, personally, 9s fail. It happens. Like you said, that narly wood can play havoc on steel. I just hope I never see it again.

I hear ya. I've put my niner through some twisted black walnut, that I questioned if I should have or not. I was hitting the blade hard, but she made it through okay. I probably shouldn't have done that though.

Ah snap!!! I hope not 3 months. She is my go to knife. I'm carrying my modded 16 until I get my 5 back.

Got a box from kabar Friday....

They are so freakin awesome!!! They sent me an "old style" roll stamped 5.

Not a big fan of the new sheath. Don't get me wrong, it's way nicer than the old style sheath but the snap retention strap doesn't fit around the handle. So until I make a new leather one she's gonna ride in my specops sheath.

So thank you kabar for being do damn awesome!!!

suh-wheet!
two weeks. not bad including shipping.
