Today I went to the local walmart to handle every leatherman they have in stock (one of my favorite pastimes). I told the nice lady behind the counter how I've been disappointed with leatherman tools lately.

As she took back the Wave and Super Tool I had been handling she said "well, you're probably disappointed because those aren't the nicest multitools we carry!"

She proceeded to hand me a gerber suspension multiplier. I actually laughed out loud. Gerber must have some incredible marketing or something, everyone still believes that gerber makes outstanding equipment.

For those of you who were wondering, yes I checked out all the tools on the gerber, and yes they were all pretty cheap feeling. But then again so were most of the tools on the leathermen. The only tool that impressed me was the phillips driver on the Super Tool.

Yea when you go to big stores that sell knives like wolly world, lowes Etc. The clerk is just your average Joe trying to make a living with little to no knife knowledge, They are probably basing their opinion on said knife or multi -tool by which one they sell they most of. I've said this several times but your average person is going to buy the cheapest knife, or multi tool they can get away with buying and go from there. The thought of spending even 100 dollars on a knife is just absurd to anyone who is not a knife nut. At least it's Gerber, the people I work with watched a cold steel video and they all believe they really are the worlds strongest sharpest knives. I'm known as the idiot that payed almost 1,000 dollars for 2 knives.

A few years ago I started using a SwissTool RS and a SwissTool Spirit and never went back to my Wave and Charges. I still own Leathermans and like to carry and use them every now and then, but the SwissTools are my first choice and they're my only choice for camping trips.

I should add that it's a matter of preference too. A friend of mine doesn't like the SwissTools and prefers his Charge TTi. For him it's important to have easy accessible blades. For me that's not important; I have some folders for EDC purposes and take a fixed blade with me into the outdoors.

I'd love the swisstool and the spirit if they had larger blades. Pretty much my only qualm.

Charge Ti and TTi are the most useful & well built multitools I have ever handled... The impression my dad's Ti left on me spurred purchase of a TTi now that the old Ti's are discontinued and EXTREMELY hard to find!
