Good pics showin kids learning things that could save thier lives someday.

That second pic shows a chip off the ol' block I'd say...Like father like son...

beautiful area... where is that?
Been looking for a place to teach my wife a little bit about the outdoors.

WAIT!
edited to add...
saw the other thread... never mind...

Nice looking family, thanks for sharing. Your son looks like a natural on fire teepees!

The location is the Chattahochee National Forest, Panther Creek Rec area. It has about a 5 mile hike down to some real nice falls, but we had hiked it earlier (day hike a couple of months ago), and found some great camping sites about half-way.

Both my wife and I have been working the kids up to our first backbacking trip, and this turned out perfect.

The trail was a little rougher than you'd expect, but my 5 year old son didn't have any issues.

The good thing is, they're both old enough now to start doing more of the camp chores; getting firewood, filtering water, cleaning dishes, etc....and they finally got to try and make thier own fire :D

MelancholyMutt, we've done a ton of "car-camping", mostly primative, and it's been long while since I've done any serious "recreational" backpacking. This was a good opportunity for me and my wife to figure out what we need and what we really don't need, and what stuff can do double duty.

We all had a blast :)

ROCK6,

Great Father, great family and great area to explore. I know that general area... Really neat stuff here! You are smart to teach them early on, these valuable lessons... My kids are, {girl} 8yrs & {boy} 9yrs and have similar out-of-doors educations as do yours. It was one of the smartest things I did for them early on. It builds confidence through self-reliance, and keeps paying big dividends in multiple areas of they're life... Thanks for allowing us the "lens" to which to veiw them by. :)

Knowledge is power..

all the best,

Anthony
