I just couldn't look at those dead sexy camp knives just sitting there this long! I just placed an order on the DFK site for one of the Black scale right hand grind ones w/ sheath! I've never been attracted to, or used, knives this large but I've grown to be a big fan of tomahawks. With so many "large knife ~or~ 'hawk?" threads I had to check for myself what I'll really like! DFKs "lines" are so damn sexy - I'll admit that was a huge factor! Also I've never tried a chisel grind. I'm stoked to have so many "firsts" in one package!

Next, maybe with this order, I'd like to check out a Pocket Fighter and then a Backpacker! I can't think of another knifemaker who's designs I like so many of!

Go backpacker next... and the camp knife is a bargain, no joke.. I still might grab one too... that size, O1... custom... worth $210 :)

congrats.. and welcome :D

Wooo! You gonna love that blade. It's about time they sell. I told Daniel I want one after Christmas if they still exist :P

When the first one arrives, the slippery slope does too. Daniel's knives are great. Your wallet will feel the pain, but you will have a smile on your face:D

Congrats on your new toy! The more you use it the more you love it, that's DFK!

Hey thanks!

You're going to like it, they are a steal. I might keep one!

Thanks everyone for the kind words.

Haha. I wasn't going to say anything but $210 for the knife and $55 for the sheath seems too good to be true for the items in the pictures and certainly for the reputation of their makers!
Use item #1 for me will be indoor wood splitting. I love my hatchets & 'hawks but splitting small chunks of oak into smaller pieces is quieter and neater with a knife... and I'm sure it'll be easier with a BIG knife. Plus this newest cord of oak is on the large size for my little pot belly stove & challenging for my 4" knives.

Beautiful, functional, affordable, reputable, something new? I'm one stoked Mofo!

indoor wood processing for me... gerber/fiskars 14in hatchet.. the thing is amazing at producing kindling..

big knives are fun, and useful for this as well, just not as quick :)

buuurrrrr. more snow time, later!

Yeah I keep a Knives of Alaska Hatchet by the fire. I have used it a LOT in the past 10 yrs but I mainly keep it there now for my GF or guests to use. I like my RMJ Jenny Wren better because I can baton it behind the head instead of just picking up the whole piece of wood by the handle with the bit stuck and slamming it down which is what I end up doing with the KoA. Most often though I just chip chunks off the side of a couple of 1/4'ed-1/8'ed oak & separate those into different sizes. Of course whatever I do varies with the wood and it's size after it comes inside. One day I'll get an Axe and a chopping stump but for now the wood that's been available to me has all been very neatly processed. All I've really "needed" are smaller tools. I actually spent Winter '07 using no fuel other than wood and only a Swamp Rat Knife Works "Rat Warden" to process it. Unfortunately it was mostly Pine and I had to burn out my Dutch oven a few times and I was never really able to get all the muck off of my Moka pot!

I have been looking at those Camp Knives too. I don't need one but I'll find a way to use one.
