Mom and I took a stroll through the woods yesterday. Shes 72 and sometimes doesnt possess good balance. The autumn leaves were thick on the trail and slick. She was having trouble with her footing and almost took a spill down a steep hillside. She needed a walking stick or risk injury. I found a suitable sapling , out came the Mora and using a technique I learned here "where you bend the trunk over", a competent hiking staff was born. This was no basswood either ,but a sturdy hardwood .

Not a real emergency but maybe prevented one.

And the Mora is now officially my woods knife. I recently widened a path using a Mora clipper,a JK no name, and a Schrade LB7. The Mora cut saplings , trimmed branches ... much better than the competition. It wasnt even a contest.

:) Man thats soooo cool that at that age she still gets out in the woods for a walk brother. :)

I see lots and lots of people waaay younger the her that barely leave the couch, full of CHF and COPD, chain smoking, with a list of meds as long as my arm. The only time they get out is when I take em in to the ER... That is really nice to hear for a change.

I also love that you choose a Mora for your goto blade... Thats cool.

Great weather in MO lately.... Nice to get out in it....

I agree! Good on her! Reminds me of my grand parents. 84 and he and she still body surfs! Not as they use to and as my grandad says. The spirit stil wants to but the body cant. Your post just reminded me how much I love and respect them for that.

Great job, and god bless that woman for still getting out there to enjoy nature!
