Mom and I took a stroll through the woods yesterday. Shes 72 and sometimes doesnt possess good balance. The autumn leaves were thick on the trail and slick. She was having trouble with her footing and almost took a spill down a steep hillside. She needed a walking stick or risk injury. I found a suitable sapling , out came the Mora and using a technique I learned here "where you bend the trunk over", a competent hiking staff was born. This was no basswood either ,but a sturdy hardwood .
Not a real emergency but maybe prevented one.
And the Mora is now officially my woods knife. I recently widened a path using a Mora clipper,a JK no name, and a Schrade LB7. The Mora cut saplings , trimmed branches ... much better than the competition. It wasnt even a contest.
