Hey everyone,

I just picked up a Boker Haddock and it has pretty much exceed my expectations. I've never handled an authentic Anso, but i have to say the design is awesome. Really beautiful and functional. I haven't cut much yet, but look forward to putting it to use.

OK... on to the help.

First off, the lock is pretty sticky. Actually, it is a perfectly smooth disengagement and then out of nowhere, for no rhyme or reason, it gets stuck... and I mean STUCK. Just curious if anyone's had this problem and if anyone has any advice.

Second, I took the knife down to clean it and grease it. It came apart easy enough and put back together pretty easily too. The lock is exactly is it was before, on and off sticky. The blade is perfectly centered, and it is smooth opening and closing.

Here's the thing... after i put it back together, i all off the sudden noticed a really really thin piece of teflon/plastic that is the exact size of the washer. It looks like a washer flake or something. The knife seems to function fine with out it, but obviously it came out of the knife from somewhere.

does anyone know what is for? where it goes and why it's used?

here is a quick pic of it with my cell phone. i can take better shots tomorrow if it helps.

thanks in advance.

If you'll look at the recent thread, "Photos - Love my Haddock", you'll see the black plastic washer between the Ti frame and framelock - as it is viewable on mine, which has not been dissected since it's original assembly. I assume that the Teflon washer is between the black plastic washer and the blade, the bronze washer being between the blade and the G10 side. My Teflon washer - if it is present between the blade and the black plastic washer - does nothing, save act as a spacer, as the black plastic washer can be seen to rotate in sync with the blade's movement on mine.

The lock ball comes out of it's detent that 'locks' it closed fairly easily, and - just before fully opened and locked, gets easier - possibly due to a slight easing of the edge just before the ball detent comes off the blade. Upon releasing the framelock beginning the closing, you can feel a slight increase in the effort as the 'eased' edge ends - and the ball drags on the spine - until it falls in the detent on the blade - 'locking' it closed. Of course, this is conjecture - it could be the uneven nature of that plastic washer rotating.

Check that other thread - I asked the OP there what order the washers were assembled in. Good luck!

Thank you very much! I guess i will try to order a new little spacer/washer from boker being mine is mangled up. it will not be easy to assemble this knife with a washer that is not flat at all.

You can see the huge difference in condition from your pic in your thread to mine.

I have one of these and I think the white teflon one goes between the blade and the bronze washer. I think the dark washer is by itself... Perhaps Boker can clarify?

Sorry, I just noticed this thread.

Based on how the knife came from the factory, this is how the bushings were ordered:

black bushing only between titanium frame and blade.

white bushing and bronze bushing between blade and G10 scale.

The white bushing touches the blade, not the G10.

Also, if your lock feels on and off sticky, then look for lubricant on the interface between the frame lock and the blade. This interface should be bone dry.

A total aside, other than it pertains to my Haddock. Unhappy with the relative hair-popping ability of my Haddock, I decided to spend a few minutes introducing it to my Sharpmaker. I swiped it across two of the white files' clean corners, supported in the 40 degree 'edge' slots, for twenty times a piece, followed by the same treatment on two clean flats. I cannot over-emphasize the importance of cleaning those ceramic files regularly.

The result was astounding - a hair raising knife for sure now! I would rate the sharpness attained as near that of Buck's 420HC - my sharpest resharpened metal standard here. I would rate the effort needed as more than the 420HC, but well less than S30V or D2 - probably near that of 440C. There was a marked difference between twenty and forty swipes on the files' edge, for example. The result of the effort was great - and, as maintenance, should be redone when needed. I've used my Haddock a lot - and it's initial sharpness hadn't changed since I stropped the wire edge remnants off the then new knife. Now it is as sharp as it should have been when delivered.

Thought i would dig this up since I have a similar problem. Just received my new Boker Anso 67 and noticed some blade rub against the g-10. So i went ahead and took the folder apart to inspect the washers. It turns out that thin little plastic washer was indeed mangled.

I reassembled the knife without the damaged washer and everything appears as it was prior to disassembly. Now my question is if the thin plastic washer actually serves a purpose and if i should reinstall it prior to sending the folder in to get serviced for the blade rub.

Thanks fellas.
