Spending a little time today reshaping the haft of middle axe. I have never been happy with it. Have taken quite a lot from the shoulder and throat. I like a haft with a deeper belly like the Plumb at top.

I have been using the spoke-shave pictured and a double-cut file. I don't like using a double-cut file on steel, but do like to use one on wood instead of a rasp, for finer work.

Also in the pic is a very small anvil that has been made from a piece of Railway iron.
(you guys say Railroad we say Railway). I have used this thousands of times over the years.

regards...Frank

Looks nice.

I have a little railroad anvil here that I need to clean up for a friend. Somebody did a fine job on the horn of your anvil. RR anvils are too spongy for heavy work (it's the web) but real handy for light work.

Nice job, Frank. I also like to thin out my handles. Makes for much less hand fatigue in my opinion. One of my spoke shaves looks a lot like that one.

Man, you've got some good looking choppers Frank. I like that you kept the swell knob full on that remodeled haft. I'm having a hell of a time getting my hands on a chunk of track like that. Yours looks like it was well thought out. Nice horn on that little fella.

nice work frank...

your giving me motivation to get to work on some of my handles... i just have been busy latley... and neglecting the important things;)
